Ramadan
"This (Ramadan) is a month - the first part of which brings Allah's Mercy, the middle of which brings Allah's forgiveness and the last part of which brings emancipation from hellfire" [Sahih al-Bukhari]

You can access a schedule with the Ramadan adhaan timings here.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Nueces Mosque has a number of additonal activities to try allow everybody to capitalize on the blessings of this month. Among them are:

Free Iftaars

Every Ramadan, Nueces Mosque provides iftaars Monday through Thursday, and every night during the last ten nights, to the UT student and downtown Austin community, most of whom live away from their families. Please join us in breaking your fast with your fellow Muslim brothers and sisters!

On Fridays, iftaars are hosted on UT campus by the MSA. In addition to food and drinks, these Iftaar Halaqas also have a lecture conducted by a guest speaker for us all to benefit from insha'Allah. These iftaars are usually located in the UTC building.

Hosting iftaars is a lot of work though, and we need volunteers to pick up food, serve, set up and clean up! If you're interested in volunteering, you can contact the Hospitality Director for more information at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Taraweeh

"Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." [Sahih Bukhari]

After enjoying a delicious meal, join us at the masjid for ‘Ishaa and taraweeh prayers to take in the full reward of the month of Ramadan. There will insha'Allah be eight rak'ahs of taraweeh every night at Nueces. For the convienance of the numerous students that pray at Nueces Mosque, the taraweeh prayers are not too long and should be manageable for everybody to fit into their schedule, insha'Allah.

Qiyaam al-Layl (Night Prayers)

Narrated ‘Aisha: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers. [Sahih Bukhari]

During the last ten nights of Ramadan, there will also be tahujjad prayers offered in congregation at the masjid. Qiyaam prayers will insha'Allah start at 3:45am. Afterwards, there will be suhoor at the masjid before Fajr.

You can also stop by at any time on any night of Ramadan to pray qiyaam by yourself.
